Expansion of product lines and colors kick off the new year.

Back in 2021, Yamaha introduced us to its innovative fully integrated electric boat control system. It was an interesting design with its rim-drive electric motor that is mounted around the outside edge of the impeller blade rather than in the center. Many thought it was too small and not powerful enough to make a difference in a market where gasoline reigns king. However, the 9.9-horsepower, gasoline-powered equivalent rating makes this electric outboard strong enough to push around anyone looking to fish the flats, the mangroves, or heading out for a peaceful cruise on lakes and waterways. Read below for updates on the Yamaha HARMO line of outboards.

HARMO

Yamaha kicks off 2025 with an expansion of its HARMO line that is available in single and twin configurations. The motor is fully integrated with Yamaha’s Helm Master EX joystick control to provide helmsters of all skill levels the ability to guide the boat with confidence. The rim-drive technology along with a Digital Electric Steering (DEC) mid-section add to the ease of control with immediate response for smooth maneuvering around the docks or slinking over a favorite fishing hole. The outboard has a super-wide 140-degree steering angle which allows for lateral operations when used as twins, and with a single engine, the boat can rotate within its length.

“The expansion of HARMO allows boaters to enjoy quiet, yet palpable thrust in single or twin, fully electric applications with industry upgrades in boater convenience and confidence,” said Ben Speciale, president of Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit. “HARMO also represents a portion of the multi-technology approach to carbon neutrality in our product line.”

Yamaha incorporates a lithium-ion battery solution for the HARMO electric outboard with an option to use traditional batteries, but only 12-volt regular lead acid, gel cell, or AGM batteries are approved for Yamaha’s internal combustion engines. HARMO applications also benefit from added assurance with the Stage of Charge (SoC) battery status right on the gauge, allowing boaters to plan time on the water with confidence.

The ability to use a standard, conventional mounting bracket and low-profile rigging tube lets the engine mount on a variety of transoms and pontoons.

Cowling Colors

For a low sheen and better concealment (for anglers and hunters), Yamaha is adding the matte brown cowling color to the F50, F60, and F70 outboard family. The less-reflective, earth-toned finish provides better concealment, giving hunters the edge, while the tone and shade of the color is an excellent base layer for tailored camouflaging without the need to sand or prime.

Yamaha’s pearl white color option is now available in more outboard product lines, including the F90 and F115 models.

Yamaha is also refreshing the cowling design of the traditional Gray F50-F70 and the High Thrust T50-T60 model outboards to align with the sleek look of Yamaha’s larger Inline and V6 outboards. The newly styled cowlings feature an aerodynamic design for efficient airflow over the top and around the sides of the powerhead. The new colors and styling options are available this spring.

Steering Assist

Yamaha has a new Steering Assist Tiller Handle for its F200 and F150 outboards that incorporate the 2.8L electro-hydraulic steering system introduced in 2023. The handle engages an electric steering sensor that triggers the outboard’s integrated electro-hydraulic steering system at or above 2,000 rpm which reduces arm strain during long runs. Steering sensitivity is adjustable to create tighter, traditional tiller arm feedback for more precision control during lower rpm and when navigating chop.

For more comfort and convenience for all, the tiller handle also is adjustable up to 15 degrees port or starboard from center in 5-degree increments, and the height adjustment screw allows the tiller arm to be raised or lowered parallel to the boat deck or captain’s seat to modify according to the operator’s seating preferences.
