Raymarine Axiom Display Software Upgrade Boosts Angler Control & Charts

Raymarine’s Axiom display adds more powerful features.

Some electronic manufacturers update their products by replacing the current model with a new one. In order to have the latest software or technology, users have to purchase the new version, and put the old one aside, which usually ends up on the shelf. Many can sell it to someone or trade it in, but the trade-in value never amounts to much.

If the hardware changes are really significant, it’s understandable, but users like it much better when a company improves its products by updating features or capabilities without having to buy an entirely new device.

Raymarine did that for its Axiom displays. Most anglers have a variety of electronics on board to navigate, find fish, and control the boat’s speed and direction. With an update to Axiom’s Lighthouse 4.7 software, anglers using Axiom screens now have the capability to control Power-Pole shallow-water anchors and the MOVE brushless trolling motors, including the new MOVE Offshore model. No new display needed. And as a bonus, the software update includes the Smart Drift feature anglers will love as well as the South Florida chart for Florida Marine Tracks.

Power-Pole Control

Those who use or would like to add Power-Pole shallow water anchors and/or Power-Pole’s MOVE trolling motors can take control right from the Axiom chartplotter display.

The MOVE brushless trolling motor is available as a scissor-lift or a pivot mount setup, but its secret weapon is the motor’s stealth steering drive that is whisper-silent. With the Raymarine Axiom display, boaters can navigate to a point or follow a route.

Besides the ability to steer manually, the integration allows control for a precise heading or course with speed control. It also can seamlessly switch between the MOVE trolling motor and the Raymarine Evolution autopilot while navigating a route or waypoint.

Another nice feature is the Anchor Jog Mode. With a single press, the GPS capability of the motor will hold a GPS position as long as you want and with the press of a directional button, you can move the boat five feet. If you want 10 feet, press twice and so on.

The key features for Axiom and the Shallow Water Anchor includes precise manual control of stow and deploy or a one-touch automatic stow and deploy of single or dual anchors.

Drift for Fish

When away from the shallows, Raymarine has taken the guesswork out of drifting for bottom fish with the new Smart Drift feature in the Axiom chartplotter.

The innovative addition allows anglers to select a chart location or use Axiom’s sonar history feature to scroll back the fishfinder timeline and identify interesting bottom structure or a wreck for a drift-start or selected waypoint location. It then calculates a drift by creating a drift vector line between the two.

With a selected time frame, position the boat over the start location, and the boat will end its drift at the selected waypoint. The drift vector time is adjustable, allowing anglers to extend the drift time to better prepare tackle and gear.

Florida Marine Tracks

The announcement that Raymarine has made available ISLA Mapping’s Florida Marine Tracks South Florida Marine Map for Axiom displays is a huge advantage for shallow-water and flats anglers in Florida. The new chart compatibility does not require the Lighthouse 4.7 software upgrade.

Florida Marine Tracks offers thousands of miles of detailed navigation tracks for flats, bay boats, and other shallow-water boats running in challenging areas. Florida Marine Tracks maps are corrected to provide the precise location of navigation aids, including daymarkers, buoys, and signs as well as concrete abutments, PVC stakes, and Everglades navigational aids.
