Bahamas Bliss - Day 2
We began our day with a leisurely stroll to Dockside Market, conveniently located just outside Abaco Beach Resort. This charming market offers everything you might need, from a well-stocked liquor store to an impressive selection of meats, cheeses, fresh fruits, and pantry staples.
However, boating adventures come with their mishaps and challenges. While refueling, we discovered an oil leak in the generator. This experience underscored the importance of being prepared for mechanical issues. Fortunately, it was just a short delay. Once resolved, we set off for Great Guana Cay. Upon arrival, we docked at the city docks and took a refreshing dip in the ocean before enjoying lunch on the top deck of Nippers.
Later, we continued our journey south to Scotland Cay, where we marveled at the stunning sandbar cove just off this exclusive island. It was the perfect spot to unwind and soak in the natural beauty of the Bahamas.
Day 3 Travel Story
Today’s adventure began with an exhilarating fishing trip south of Tilloo Cay, where we successfully caught grouper and yellowtail. The excitement continued as we moved on to Tahiti Beach, a breathtaking sand spit featuring a newly installed over-water swing. This scenic spot was bustling with friendly Floridians, who enhanced the vibrant atmosphere.
Our day concluded with a delightful dinner at Abaco Beach Resort. We had the pleasure of dining with Manny Alexiou, the resort’s gracious host, who shared captivating stories about the resort’s history and its deep-rooted connection with the Allen family and Southern Boating. Manny’s tales enriched our understanding of the local heritage and added a unique touch to our memorable day.
Day 4 Adventures
Our adventure took us to the picturesque Man-O-War Cay, where we enjoyed a leisurely walk along the charming waterfront. We passed the historic Albury Boat Works, which has been producing boats in the same facility for decades. A stop at the Albury Sail Shop allowed us to pick up a variety of colorful bags and chat with one of the original designers and seamstresses working on-site.
Next, we visited No Name Cay, home to the famous swimming pigs and the marvelous Big O’s restaurant, where we savored fabulous food, drinks, and enjoyed the pool. We were fortunate to encounter a local conch monger, purchasing fresh conch as it was being cracked.
Returning to our home base at Abaco Beach Resort, we relished quality time with friends, cooking and entertaining in our well-appointed condo. It was the perfect end to a delightful day.
Day 5 Tropical Travels
Our adventure continued with a leisurely cruise south to Little Harbour, the southernmost point in the Abacos. We easily docked at Pete’s Pub, where we savored delicious food and left a Southern Boating shirt hanging in the rafters—send us a note if you spot it! After a delightful lunch, we strolled to the oceanside, marveling at the gorgeous rocky shoreline. On our way back to the boat, we explored an art gallery featuring a captivating selection of creative sculptures.
Our next stop was snorkeling at Mermaid Reef, where we were mesmerized by the colorful fish in the warm waters. After this underwater adventure, we hopped back in the boat for a quick jaunt to Johnny Cay Reef, an incredible spot with breathtaking views. The day concluded with a delicious dinner at Wally’s, rounding off a perfect day of exploration and enjoyment in the Bahamas.
Day 6
We returned to Johnny Cay Reef for another snorkeling adventure, this time equipped with a GoPro to capture the stunning underwater beauty. After working up an appetite, we made a short trip to Firefly on Elbow Cay for a fabulous lunch. To cool down, we headed back to Tahiti Beach and set up our umbrella in the sand for some well-deserved relaxation.Â
As the day progressed, we returned to the resort to prepare for the big Independence Day celebrations. The evening was a highlight, featuring an awesome buffet with traditional American fare, fun crab races, and an extensive fireworks display. Kudos to Abaco Beach Resort for orchestrating such an amazing day!
Day 7
We embarked on an hour-long journey north to Green Turtle Cay, where our first stop was the Green Turtle Club. Here, we enjoyed a tasty lunch featuring lobster quesadillas, shrimp and avocado wraps, and fresh salads with homemade dressings. The club’s classic nautical bar, adorned with signed dollar bills from visitors over the years, was a unique sight.
Next, we moved to the New Plymouth public docks, making it easier to explore the town center. We wandered through the charming streets, treating ourselves to sweets from the local bakery. Heading back south, we made our way to the serene cove at Scotland Cay for a refreshing swim. There, we reconnected with an American friend and reminisced about old times.
The evening culminated with an exceptional dining experience at the Bistro at Abaco Beach Resort—an outstanding end to an adventurous day.
Day 8 - The Finale
We began our day with a delightful breakfast in our condo, savoring sweet breads purchased the previous day. Our final excursion took us to Hope Town, where we enjoyed a leisurely walk through the charming town and a refreshing dip in the ocean. We concluded the afternoon with cocktails on the deck at Captain Jack’s, accompanied by a picturesque view of the lighthouse.
Upon returning to the resort, we fueled up and loaded the boat for our eight-hour journey home. Before dinner, we took one last dip in the pool, then dined at the Bistro restaurant. The evening was bittersweet, marking the end of an incredible trip filled with unforgettable memories.
