Using an adapter at a marina provides safe power when traveling.

As you explore new waters and visit different marinas, one of the most important things to keep in mind is ensuring your boat stays powered up. However, marinas don’t always use the same type of shore power outlets, and this can pose a challenge if the plug on your boat’s power cord doesn’t match the outlet at the dock. Fortunately, using a shore power adapter is an easy and safe way to make sure you’re able to connect to the marina’s power system, no matter the outlet type.

Marinas usually offer several kinds of shore power connections, with 30-amp and 50-amp being the most common. However, you might also encounter 20-amp outlets, particularly at smaller docks or for non-boating applications. If your boat is set up for a different type of connection, an adapter allows you to safely link your vessel to the available shore power without worrying about compatibility issues.

Using an adapter, such as Hubbell Marine’s YQ100PLUS Intelligent Y Adapter, is not just about convenience—it’s also a safety measure. Electrical systems at marinas are designed with safeguards to prevent overloads and short circuits, but using the wrong type of plug or power cord can bypass these protections, putting your boat at risk. A properly rated, marine-grade adapter ensures the correct and safe flow of electricity from the dock to your boat’s electrical system.

It’s essential to choose the right adapter, specifically designed for marine environments. These adapters are built to handle saltwater, humidity, and other challenging conditions that could degrade regular power equipment. They’re also engineered to prevent overheating and electrical damage, offering peace of mind when connecting to unfamiliar power sources.

Before plugging in, always check both the adapter and the marina’s electrical system for visible damage.
A quick inspection assures that your connection will be secure, keeping you and your boat unharmed.

Confidently travel between marinas with a high-quality adapter on hand, knowing you have the right tools to stay powered and safe throughout your journey.
