New marine products win awards at national conference.

The International Boatbuilders’ Exhibition & Conference (IBEX) recently held its annual Innovation Awards managed by the National Marine Manufacturers Association and judged by Boating Writers International. The awards recognize manufacturers and suppliers who bring new, innovative marine products to the market. Here are a few related to the engine room.

Boat Care and Maintenance (two winners)

CLiX: The CLiX, created by Arthur Edison, LLC, is designed to solve every boater’s problem: how to fuel without risking overflow to spill into the water and over the boat. CLiX uses a unique, patent-pending design with a custom-blended rubberized material to resolve this issue, especially with systems that vent out of the fuel cap. It’s biodegradable, so the CLiX is safe for the environment and the packaging is designed as its storage container. “It’s always fun to see someone cook up a really clever, simple, inexpensive solution to a problem that has vexed boaters ever since the onboard fuel tank was invented,” said Judge Pim Van Hemmen. “The CLiX fuel spill prevention product is simply brilliant and revolutionary.” aeinvents.com

SMartyr SCP Anode: The SMartyr SCP System provides eco-friendly marine corrosion protection with a self-contained, solar-powered, patented, impressed-current cathodic protection (ICCP) device. It offers superior corrosion defense without the environmental drawbacks of zinc anodes that leave harmful element deposits, such as mercury and copper. Its slim, hydrodynamic design reduces drag, and a single bolt attachment for easy installation makes it a cost-effective, greener solution. “Nearly every boat needs to be protected from galvanic corrosion, but our typical metal sacrificial anodes add toxic metals to the water we boat in,” said Judge Tim Murphy. “The CMP SMartyr ICCP solves this problem and satisfies the ABYC E-2 power requirement with a self-contained lithium battery charged by solar cells. The unit senses hull potential, self regulates, and indicates proper functioning with LED lights. It’s a clean solution at a similar price of sacrificial anodes.” martyranodes.com

Mechanical Systems (two winners)

PHIBER Systems: All marine systems that depend on raw water-cooling networks, including inboard engines, now have a fully automated, patent-pending universal freshwater flush system at their service. PHIBER Systems offer routine, eco-friendly, precision flushing at the touch of a button, eliminating the labor burdens of traditional flushing and the garden hose. “After four years of development, PHIBER’s pressurized, hydro injection for brine evacuation and remediation is the first product to streamline the flushing process and to have universal application,” said Judge Theresa Nicholson. “PHIBER makes freshwater flushing maintenance an intrinsic function for any system that uses raw water for cooling, at the touch of a button.” phibersystems.com

WIF-Shield by OhNoH20: WIF-Shield is an ABYC-compliant fire-protection device designed for Racor clear bowl marine fuel filters/water separators in both gasoline and diesel applications. WIF-Shield is also compatible with the clear bowl quick drain and offers reliable Water-In-Fuel Monitoring provided by the WIF-Pro system. The removable heat shield bowl doesn’t block viewing the clear bowl and easily removes to drain water from the filter. “This clever but simple product takes a critical and ubiquitous bit of kit, the Racor fuel filter, and helps it work even better,” said Judge Charles Doane. “The easily removed heat shield bowl enhances key features—the ability to detect water in fuel and easily drain off contaminants—and improves functionality.” wifpro.com

Honda BF350 V8

The all-new high-power Honda Marine BF350 V8 outboard is the first Honda V8 engine available commercially, integrating exclusive, innovative features that deliver unparalleled performance for extraordinary boating experiences. From pleasure cruising to commercial applications, the Honda BF350 delivers maximum time on the water, propelling premium power to the next level. “With Honda’s first production V8 engine, their high-power outboard integrates innovative highlights including a fully balanced sixty-degree offset crankshaft that eliminates the need for a harmonic balancer along with key exclusive features found in Honda’s DNA,” Judge Brady Kay said. “The development of the BF350 enhances its existing lineup and takes Honda power to the next level.” marine.honda.com

Lenco Pro Control

Lenco’s Pro Control Auto is an auto-leveling solution that provides boaters with more precision, control, and confidence on the water with the boat’s trim tab system. Pro Control Auto revolutionizes boat stability, automatically counteracting a variety of dynamic running conditions, including weight shifts, keeping passengers on an even keel. “The Lenco Pro Control Auto leveling system leverages existing plane mounting points to and counteracts dynamic running conditions to improve stability, reduce pitch and re-entry impact,” said Judge Richard Armstrong. “This cost-effective system is a snap to install and configure.” lencomarine.navico.com
