Track your vessel in any location with Skyhawk Oversea’s new wireless monitoring system.

It’s unfortunate that many marinas, private docks, and boat storage facilities are becoming a favored target for theft. That’s why wireless boat monitoring systems have become almost as necessary as home and car security systems…to help boat owners keep a watchful “eye” on their vessels.

Many of the current monitoring systems require hardwiring to the boat’s batteries as well as to the connections for windows, hatches, doors, bilge pumps, and more. Skyhawk Oversea has introduced the first wireless system that protects the boat year-round, whether in the water, on the trailer, or in storage. Its advanced technology earned the 2024 Innovation Award for Consumer Electronics, Mobile Applications, and Software at the Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show this past February.

The Oversea system incorporates a wireless battery-powered hub along with a full range of wireless battery-powered sensors. Advanced engineering enables the hub to provide a minimum of one year of operation on replaceable AA batteries, up to three years in most tracking/monitoring applications, and five to 10 years when used solely for on-demand location/tracking. Oversea sensors also are designed to deliver five to 10 years of operation using standard replaceable batteries. This makes Oversea the only fully battery-powered monitoring system truly capable of providing continuous year-round protection, regardless of where a boat is stored. The easy-to-use app not only monitors the boat’s access points and systems but also tracks its location.

Because there are no wires or connections, installation is a breeze for boaters of all skill levels. The compact, self-powered Oversea Hub can be located almost anywhere on the boat. All that’s required is to drop the hub into place. It is IP67-rated waterproof and includes a rubberized sleeve for added protection against the elements.

By itself, the Oversea Hub provides accurate location-on-demand tracking, whether it’s in a storage yard, in a marina, or on a trailer. Oversea provides position data using a combination of LTE cellular triangulation, Wi-Fi triangulation, and active GPS. This means that even when a vessel is stored inside of a building or parking structure where GPS isn’t available, owners can still pinpoint where their boat is located anytime they want to know.

The Oversea Hub also monitors compass orientation and can instantly alert boaters if the vessel is moved. This feature is not only valuable for extra security on land, but it can also alert boaters to unusual drift movements on a mooring or a dragging anchor.

Boat owners can customize the monitoring system to their preference. The family of 915 mHz RF sensors are designed for continuous coverage…from as far away as 1,000 feet from the hub. The system can support a multitude of sensors that can monitor numerous boats when in storage or side by side in the marina. Any alerts necessary for battery status, shore power connection, bilge pump activity, and temperature, humidity, or high-water conditions are sent via the Oversea mobile app. The same goes for motion sensors.

Oversea’s passive infrared (PIR) motion and door-entry sensors are easily deployed around the boat to alert owners when somebody comes on board or opens any door or storage compartment. In addition, a unique sound sensor is designed to detect sounds from audible smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, and burglar alarms aboard the vessel (or even nearby boats) and notify the owner. PIR sensors don’t emit any energy, but sense changes in the infrared radiation naturally emitted by people (or any warm object) to detect movement.

The entire system mounts easily, and sensors connect to the hub without complicated passwords or pairing. All boaters need to do is install, scan the QR code, and go. “Although Oversea is new to the industry and boaters, we’ve been perfecting the technology behind (Oversea) for four years now,” said Skyhawk CEO and Founder Richard Shevelow at the 2024 Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show. “Our goal was to bring peace of mind to as many boaters as possible. We’ve done this by creating a system that meets the practical, year-round monitoring needs of boaters. We’re excited by the response we’ve gotten from the press and public, and especially honored to receive this Innovation Award at our very first Miami Boat Show.” skyhawk.ai
