The Ferretti 940 represents a pleasing mix of Italian style and onboard comfort.
By Kevin Koenig
Whenever I go to the Cannes Yachting Festival, a part of me always feels like a little kid. It’s just such a glamorous place. The seaside hotels, the air of movie stardom, and the gobstoppingly luxe shopping all combine to give the city an undeniable je ne sais quoi. And while I typically board boats both big and small while there, it always feels fitting when I get aboard a vessel that matches Cannes’ singular vibe. At the 2025 show, the yacht that felt the most at home was the Ferretti 940.

Ferretti 940: Designed as a Pocket Megayacht
The 940 aims to be a pocket megayacht and occupies the second rung down on the Ferretti flybridge size ladder, just below the 1000 model. Sliding in under the magic 30-meter mark, the 940 is still able to offer relatively high performance, with top speeds in the mid-20-knot range.
Performance and Engine Options
With the standard twin 2,000-horsepower MAN V12s, she maxes out at 25 knots and cruises at 21, and with the optional 2,200-horsepower MAN V12Xs she does 27 knots at WOT and 23 at cruise. Luckily for owners and guests, the speed is not a tradeoff for volume.
The 940 has a 22-foot, 2-inch beam—just two feet narrower than the 1000. It’s a decision that pays dividends in interior volume, seen mostly in the salon and the accommodations level. At this size the yacht is predictably semi-custom as well, which eliminates headaches in the build process while also helping to preserve a measure of resale value—always a happy thing for owners that are serious about their spending dollar.

Beach Club and Swim Platform
The 940 is also a yacht that is perfectly on trend with many of the other Italian models on the market that have a focus on entertaining and forging a connection with the marine environment. This intent is clear from the moment one steps onto the swim platform. The hydraulic platform slides in and out of the water with ease and functions as a de facto beach club with space for lounging and for water toys. It also offers access to the yacht’s garage, which can hold a RIB tender up to 13 feet, 6 inches in length overall—the hydraulic nature of the swim platform makes launching and reloading the tender a snap.
Spacious Cockpit and Indoor-Outdoor Living
Steps to port and starboard lead up to a spacious cockpit that is nearly completely shaded by the flybridge’s overhang. A sofa at the transom can fit four adults while a freestanding coffee table and two comfortable chairs—both by Minotti—round out the seating. The area is 344 square feet overall which is quite large for this style of boat, and the aim here was versatility.
The furniture can be whisked away if hosting a larger cocktail party or entertaining a young family, but a more formal dining configuration can be set up for fancier occasions as well. Glass parapets at the top of the stairs both enlarge the deck visually, and play to the strong connection-to-the-sea vibes Ferretti was after.

Salon Design and Customization Options
Large sliding glass doors open across a flush deck to offer access to the yacht’s salon. Slightly smaller than the cockpit but still offering 300 square feet-plus, this is the vessel’s main interior entertainment area. Large windows to port and starboard span nearly from sole to ceiling and allow in loads of natural light to enliven the entire salon. Sliding doors on the starboard side open to create a balcony that lets in fresh ocean breezes. As I walked through the salon, I took note of how the sunlight danced off the richly grained, dark woods in a delightful and elegant manner. The salon also reflects the flexibility at the core of this model.
A dining table for eight forward can be dressed up or down depending on how formal the occasion is. At the same time, a large L-shaped sofa sits opposite a television that can pop up or remain hidden, again depending on the vibe of the occasion. Hull No. 1’s interior was done in Ferretti’s Classic motif which utilizes warm and earthy materials to accentuate an understated look. A choice of woods and the option for marble accents throughout offer owners options to personalize their yacht in ways that make the boat unique without making it a one off.
Raised Pilothouse Improves Privacy and Visibility
The Ferretti 940 is a raised pilothouse design, which offers several benefits, perhaps the most prominent of which is privacy. It’s a large boat but not huge, so to be able to have the captain tucked away in his own private space while steering helps open up guest spaces completely. While many Italian boats are not necessarily known for optimal lines of sight from the wheel, the 940 does better than most owing in large part to a single-piece windshield with no central stanchion. The clean and unobstructed views here will no doubt be appreciated by the captain.
The helm also offers proximity to and a nice flow towards both the salon and galley should the captain need to leave his post for a moment. There are options for electronics, though Simrad seems to be the most likely choice for helm screens and compasses. The captain sits in a comfortably upholstered leather seat with stitching as tight and flawless as in areas of the boat reserved for guests. And happily, a Xenta joystick makes docking and slow-speed maneuvering as easy as playing a video game.
Main-Deck Owner's Suite
The 940 features a main-deck master as another of its superyacht touches. The space benefits greatly from the yacht’s aforementioned beaminess, particularly because the beam carries so far forward. Richly veined marble accents throughout help to elevate the atmosphere here.
Stepping into the master one walks by a large, walk-in closet that will house the owners’ wardrobes, and then is greeted by the sight of an aft-facing king-sized berth. The head is forward and features his-and-hers sinks and a shower with smoked-glass partitions. Hullside glazing allows for a pleasing amount of natural light in this area as well.
Guest Accommodations and Crew Quarters
Down below, the yacht has four more guest cabins, all of which are en suite. Generous crew quarters forward are also on this level. This space includes two convertible cabins, personal heads, and a crew dinette. The focus on a comfortable crew space is a smart move by Ferretti. For years, crew space and Italian-built boats were not exactly synonymous. But since Covid and the explosion of growth in the yachting industry, smart builders like Ferretti have doubled down on making the crew as comfortable as possible. There are two aphorisms at play here: 1. Happy crew, happy boat, and 2. Good crew is hard to find (and keep).
Flybridge and Outdoor Entertainment Areas
Ferretti being Ferretti, much attention is paid to the outdoor entertainment areas. The foredeck lounge will be a popular place whether you are at anchor, moored stern-to, or underway and want some wind in your hair. A large sunpad and a C-shaped sofa with a dinette do the heavy lifting here. This is an ideal spot for a morning coffee, a book break, or an intimate conversation thanks to the heightened amount of privacy being on the bow allows.
The 940’s flying bridge is destined to be one of the most popular spots on the yacht. It’s one of the largest of its kind in class and offers all the amenities one needs to be known as a legendary entertainer. A wet bar to port will help keep the party lively while a dining settee opposite that will handle alfresco meals (of which the bulk of them aboard the 940 likely will be). A lounge section aft has modular furniture and is the best place to catch some rays as the rest of the deck is covered by a hardtop. Forward there is an upper helm station which gives the captain flexibility as to where he’d like to wheel the boat. On a beautiful Bahamas day, there’s no better place to be.
Maximizing enjoyment on the water is what this yacht is all about. She mixes sleek and stylish Italian design language with a footprint that is voluminous enough to be practical for whatever way her owners choose to use her. She’s also got some nice performance numbers matched with a focus on entertaining that should scratch a lot of itches for a lot of different people. With this new 940 Ferretti has added a “mini” megayacht to its lineup that assuredly outpunches her weight and more than holds her own no matter how glamorous the port of call.
