Next week, 25 Nordhavns will gather off Great Exuma for the first-ever Nordhavn Rendezvous in the Bahamas. The three-day event will forego seminars and education opportunities, and instead focus on fun and the camaraderie Nordhavn owners are known for.
The Nordhavn Bahamas Rendezvous kicks off a year of gatherings that will also include meet-ups in Scotland this summer, the Pacific Northwest in September and the Sea of Cortez in the fall. “People gravitate to the Nordhavn brand first and foremost for the seaworthiness, capabilities and track record of the boats,” said Nordhavn’s East Coast Sales Manager Garrett Severen. “But a close second is the Nordhavn community. There is no more supportive community than the one that makes up Nordhavn owners.”
Whether seeking advice in the robust Nordhavn Owners Group online forum or banding together with others for an ocean crossing, Nordhavn owners very much embrace an “all for one and one for all” mentality. When you buy a Nordhavn, you also become part of a large, knowledgeable family that thrives on each other’s company, offers Severen. “The thing about Nordhavn owners is the commonality starts with the boats, and usually goes from there. Most Nordhavn owners are like-minded so they really get along with each other.”
Despite the deeper drafts of most Nordhavns, the Bahamas is a boating mecca for owners of the brand. Rather than docking at a marina, the rendezvousing group of Nordhavns will each anchor out and spend their days jumping into dinghies to explore hotspots for snorkeling, sea ray spotting, private beach hangouts, and shore side parties. “Our job is fairly easy,” Severen says, as one of the members of the Rendezvous committee. “We’ve put together an itinerary of events but for the most part, these are owner-operators. They are as self-sufficient in cruising as they are entertaining themselves!”
