Five Charlie Awards and two bronze honors celebrate a year of editorial innovation, creative design, and audience-focused storytelling.
Since the Florida Magazine Association was founded 73 years ago, it’s grown into the largest state/regional magazine association in the country. Every year, the FMA holds its conference in a different city in Florida, which culminates in the Charlie Awards presentation at a dinner on the final evening of the conference. The awards pay tribute to the best of the best of the state’s publications in various categories, including design and writing excellence, headline writing, original photography, illustrations, digital platforms, and even podcasts (for which SBY won the Charlie this year).
At this year’s conference, held at the Hilton Orlando Disney Springs, Southern Boating & Yachting took seven awards: two bronzes, for Best Column (Editor’s Letter) and Best Written Magazine, and five Charlies, the top honor, for Best Redesign, Best Column (Port Folio by Angela Caraway-Carlton), Best Service Feature (“A Really Big Show,” by Marilyn DeMartini), Best Podcast, and Best Original Ad for a Client, designed by graphic designer Ashley Grace.
It was an exhilarating way to celebrate the rebrand and refresh of the magazine’s content and design.
