Navigation Update
Once again, The Bahamas were threatened by this year’s exceptionally busy hurricane season. Both Irma and Maria passed close to and through the southern Bahamas. The damage from Irma was quite severe on some islands, particularly Acklins Island and the Raggeds. Ragged Island was devastated and fully evacuated as of press time. We fully
expect these hardy Out Islanders to rebuild, but if your cruising plans this winter include the Raggeds, don’t expect any services. Instead, do what you can to support them with materials and labor. Elsewhere, Bimini and West End also experienced some damage as
Hurricane Irma went up the Florida peninsula, but most marinas and shore facilities are quickly rebuilding; most should be in full operation by the time you read this. A notable exception in the southern Bahamas is Exuma Yacht Club in Georgetown, whose docks were significantly damaged and which may be closed for some time.
