Sea Force IX Sport Center Console

The Sea Force IX 41.5 Sport Center Console is a tournament-ready boat that is equally suited to be a yacht tender.

Big center consoles often must fill many roles—one day a serious sport fisherman, the next a shuttle tender to a yacht, then a pleasure cruiser and, after that, a dive boat with easy reboarding access. Fortunately, owners of the Sea Force IX Sport Center Console have everything they need for those multiple roles already built into the boat.

Designers of the 41.5 Sport are accustomed to drawing up much bigger vessels for the team to build at the Palmetto, Florida, facility. The Sea Force IX model lineup starts with the 41.5 Sport (41’8″ LOA, 12′ beam) as the first in the new Performance Sport Outboard center console line and climbs up to the 131.5 Luxury Performance Skybridge Sport Yacht (131’8″ LOA, 26’10” beam).

“This is the smallest boat we have ever built,” explains Rick Hyer, design engineer at Sea
Force IX, during the launch of the boat at the 2017 Fort Lauderdale International Boat
Show. “Our primary market is from 81 to 94 feet with inboard sportfishing boats. Now we have ventured into this larger center console market, with a 55-footer next. The construction is all composite, all vinylester resin.”

Powered by triple Yamaha 350-hp four-stroke outboard engines, the Sea Force IX 41.5 Sport is a wave crusher and offers a smooth ride in rough conditions. She also carries some heft at more than 21,000 pounds. However, with a full load and five passengers, she still can run to the 55-plus-mph top speed and cruise comfortably in the 40-mph range.

“This is a bottom design that Sea Force IX has proven to be successful with,” says Todd Albrecht, sales and marketing manager for Sea Force IX. Prior to his current position, Albrecht had long been with Jupiter Marine, and his experience with larger center consoles helped guide Sea Force IX with its new center console line. “It has been modified to get a little more deadrise, from a traditional 17-degree deadrise to a 23-degree bottom. The boat creates lift for the entire running surface with twin lifting strakes on both sides, no steps, and large chines. The faster you push the throttles, the higher it gets out of the water, and reduced wetting surface increases the fuel efficiency.”

A boat this big is a prime candidate for both the Yamaha Helm Master system and the Seakeeper 5 gyro stabilizer. Both are options, but neither product was on this boat, which was hull No. 1 of the 41.5 Sport line. However, Yamaha’s service network can now add the Helm Master system after the boat is purchased. While the joystick control may be what everyone talks about when discussing Helm Master, there’s much more to the system.

Because Helm Master now works with twin, triple and quad engine setups, it’s suitable for a variety of boat types and sizes. For 2018, Yamaha added a new feature with Helm Master called SetPoint. The feature’s three modes— FishPoint, DriftPoint, and StayPoint—provide even greater control for situations such as fishing, waiting for a bridge and controlled drifting.

Paying homage to the builder’s fishing background, the 41.5 Sea Force IX Sport Center Console has twenty (yes, 20) rod holders and rocket launchers. There’s also a 60-gallon livewell, custom outriggers, icemaker, abundant tackle storage, and a cockpit nearly big enough for a fighting chair. “We installed a diesel generator with a 30-gallon fuel tank,” Albrecht adds.

“For a weeklong trip to The Bahamas, that’s going to be enough fuel to power the generator so you can run everything, including the 16,000-BTU air conditioning, which offers two additional vents plumbed to the helm area.”

The two front-seat passengers and the captain ride in style on Llebroc helm chairs with footrests, while the captain looks forward to an elegant Edson wood steering wheel and twin Garmin GPSMAP 7616 multi-function displays. The Yamaha throttles and shifters are in a comfortable position and teak wood lines above decks. The helm is protected by an expansive hardtop. “The hardtop arch is an aluminum frame, and then the top is cored fiberglass,” says Albrecht. “We then paint the aluminum in house. The only way to give it this custom look was to do it ourselves.”

Below,  the cabin of the Sea Force IX Sport Center Console has teak woodwork and a cabin that features a dining table that lowers on an electric actuator and converts the dinette to a queen berth. The cabin also features UltraLeather for all the fabric surfaces and Staron countertops. Accessories include an AC/DC stainless steel drawer-style refrigerator, microwave and freshwater sink. A stand-up head is much appreciated as is the abundant storage. In addition, access to the air conditioner and other ship’s systems is all easily achieved down below. A Bomar deck hatch allows for plenty of natural light and ventilation.

“We considered how someone is going to use this boat. They are going to fish, but they are also going to cruise, so it needs to be a yacht-style boat,” says Albrecht. “Here in
the bow, you have two big, comfortable lounge seats and a nice clean anchor setup.” Sea Force IX went with the shoot-through-the-bow-style anchor design that offers a crisp look
as well as shaving off overall length. “It started with our clients up north who are paying by the foot for dock space. “Having that anchor hanging is an extra foot of cost to them
at the dock. It’s a cleaner look to tuck it into the bow.”

The design of the Sea Force IX Sport Center Console includes a removable swim ladder,  deployable from either side of the aft teak platform. The ladder attachments are built directly into the hull. “We built a boat that can be customized and used for many different activities,” Albrecht states. “That’s the goal with this center console line, and we’re looking forward to offering boats with even more utility and performance.”

Hatteras 90 Motor Yacht

The Hatteras 90 Motor Yacht (91′ 9″ LOA, 22′ 6″ beam) joins the Hatteras fleet making its world debut at the Fort Lauderdale show. The sleek exterior is matched by a light-filled interior courtesy of signature skylights. The builder’s first-ever hydraulic balcony is an option for either port or starboard in the salon, opening it to the outdoors.

The 90 also introduces the HattCON ship management system that integrates navigation, monitoring and automation systems into a touchscreen. Hatteras’ first 45 Express with Bridge (44′ 7″ LOA, 16′ 6″ beam) debuts as well. With the same proven hull and interior layout as the 45 Express and Express Sportfish, this option adds to the fishability with a flybridge helm and optional half or full tower.

Prestige Yachts debuts 520 and 460S models

It’s hard to believe the new Prestige 520 (52′ 9″ LOA, 14′ 9″ beam) is only 52 feet. A full flybridge, pop-up lounge chairs on the foredeck, oversized swim platform, integrated passerelle, tender garage, and private entrance to a large owner’s cabin are a few of the features that belie her size.

Prestige Yachts other debut is the sporty 460 S (46′ 10″ LOA, 13′ 11″ beam), which shows the builder’s emphasis on flexible spaces: The main deck can be a protected living area, or by opening the large sunroof and vast aft sliding glass door, it can be part of the outdoors. Volvo IPS drives offer easy maneuverability and a 33-knot top speed.

Canados Gladiator

Designed by Marco Casali as a luxurious day-cruiser, the Canados Gladiator 428 (42′ 9″ LOA, 13′ 9″ beam) may be the smallest option from the custom Italian yard, but it has big-boat DNA. Clean, minimalist lines prevail with a single level extending from the swim platform to the cabin door. A carbon-fiber hardtop shades the extensive outdoor area, while inside, the cabin can be custom-designed. The standard electronics package includes a “crystal cockpit” integrated dashboard, which is a touchscreen that handles all boat systems. A highly flared bow ensures a dry ride, even when speeds reach their max—37 to 55 knots, depending on the power option chosen.

Sirena Yachts

Sirena Yachts—the new Sirena Marine motoryacht brand—called upon some of the best names in the business to design its first models: Germán Frers for naval architecture and Tommaso Spadolini for interior design. The result is the Sirena 64 (68′ 1″ LOA, 19′ 3″ beam) with voluminous interiors and a low-drag hull capable of planing at high-speed or cruising or semi-displacement ode with great fuel efficiency. Space is a hallmark of the refreshing, light-filled interior with the owner’s cabin offering an industry-leading 260 square feet. With the standard 850-hp CATS, she reaches 27 knots; at 10 knots, she has a 1,000-nautical mile range. High fuel and water capacity adds to her credentials as a serious world cruiser.

Ranger Tugs

This isn’t your father’s tugboat. It’s the next-generation of Ranger tugs.

As the latest of the next-generation Ranger Tugs, the 2018 R-27 (27′ LOA, 8′ 6″ beam) follows the design cues of her big sister, the R-29S, with a curved front window and overhead glass atrium that brighten the interior. It offers a fast, dry ride, courtesy of a single Yahama F300 outboard making it the second Ranger Tug model to look outside the hull for power. A bow thruster comes standard to ease docking. Plenty of accommodation space also distinguishes the brand, and the R-27 features a private double cabin forward and an additional salon berth by converting the dining table opposite the galley.

MJM 43z

MJM is tapping into the allure of the outboard market citing easier maintenance, advances in technology and controls, better  performance, quiet running, and less risk of damage in a grounding. This has led to the 35z (37′ 11″ LOA, 11′ beam) and MJM 43z (46′ 3.5″ LOA, 12′ beam) powered by Mercury  eradoV outboards. The new models combine 50 mph performance with all-weather family boating.

Joystick docking with GPS station-keeping eases maneuvering. Options include a full-length bimini and a Seakeeper gyrostabilizer. Both models feature hulls designed by Zurn Yacht Design with a modified deep-V and long waterline.

Vicem V46

The V46 IPS (46′ LOA, 14′ 9″ beam) built in fiberglass represents a departure for the experienced cold-molded Turkish builder. Behind the classic exterior, Vicem designers set out to create a comfortable and luminous interior. The lounge flows into the cockpit when the sliding door is open, and the lower deck benefits from the petite IPS drives for which the model gets its name.

These allowed for a smaller engine room, hence, more space for the two- or three-cabin layout. The deep-V hard chine hull moves through the water at close to 30 knots with the 435-hp Volvo Penta IPS 600s wide open, but what impressed most at sea trials was the level of quiet; at 25 knots just 62 decibels were detected.

Jarrett Bay

Jarrett Bay, the custom sportfish builder, shows off its biggest and most advanced creation, Jaruco (formerly Project Ireland, 90′ LOA, 22′ 6″ beam), in Fort Lauderdale. Built to ABS class standards, the flagship project was led by an owner with long-distance dreams who pushed the envelope for the ultimate in safety and efficiency. Carrying 4,400 gallons of fuel, she’ll be able to go far and fast with 2,600-hp 16-cylinder MTUs that propel her into the mid-40s.

Lightweight construction helps in this endeavor: carbon fiber stringerss and bulkheads, titanium shafts and ultra-thin marble veneer flooring. Six staterooms are incorporated, including a full-beam master and two separate crew quarters, and the finish throughout is impeccable.

Azimut Grande 27 Metri

Azimut will bring 20 models, with 2 being debuts in America: the S7 (shown above) and Grande 27 Metri, both with the sporty aggressive style that Stefano Righini draws so well. The S7 (69′ 11″ LOA, 17′ 5″ beam) has an innovative interior designed by Francesco Guida in his first project for Azimut. He had plenty of space to work with since building the superstructure in lightweight carbon fiber allowed the volume to be pushed to the max without increasing overall weight.

Triple 800-hp Volvo Penta IPS drives offer a 35-knot top speed and joystick-controlled maneuverability. The Grande 27 Metri’s (87′ 10″ LOA, 21′ 7″ beam) elegant interior is by the renowned Achille Salvagni and coined as “the new Italian Renaissance,” offers up to five cabins— with a main deck owner’s suite—and offers the biggest living areas in the category thanks to carbon fiber construction.

Astondoa

After debuting at the Miami boat show last February, Astondoa’s 66 GLX (67′ 3″ LOA, 17′ 5″ beam) makes its first appearance at FLIBS. Designed for the boat owner moving up in size, the 66 has that coveted extra space but can still be managed easily by an owner-operator.

For greater flexibility, there are crew quarters for two that can double as a guest cabin. Four other guest cabins are incorporated, and big-boat features include a large swim platform and a generous flybridge for entertaining. Standard power comes from Volva Penta IPS 1200s, which top out at 32 knots.

Astondoa’s Americas dealer, G Marine, also will show the revamped 80 GLX flybridge (81′ 8″ LOA, 19′ 7″ beam), which features larger side windows, a reconfigured flybridge and a new interior in warm colors.

Mares Catamaran 47 Outboard Express

Mares Catamaran 47 Outboard Express

The new Mares Catamaran 47 Outboard Express comes powered by four 350-hp Suzuki outboard engines that provide a top speed of more than 50 mph. She cruises at more than 40 mph, and the boat incorporates an integrated foil to give even more performance and fuel efficiency to this already efficient hull design.

Because outboards are so popular now, it was a logical decision for Mares to choose them for this new design. The interior layout includes a master cabin with a king bed and a spacious salon with a large sunroof and two refrigerator-freezers. The aft galley offers access to the cockpit for the perfect entertaining layout.
