June
The event is a way to get more people involved in outdoor activities.
National Fishing and Boating Week, June 1-8, is an opportunity to participate in fishing, kayaking, and water activities. Whether individuals have experience fishing or are beginners, there are various ways to engage with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service during National Fishing and Boating Week. This event serves as a reminder to pursue fishing and boating throughout the year. Activities may include fishing from the shore of a lake or taking a boat cruise with friends. National Fishing and Boating Week began in 1979 as National Fishing Week. Its main goal was simple: get more people hooked on fishing. The week was first proclaimed nationally by George W. Bush in 2002. During this outdoor celebration, many states offer free fishing passes on public fishing sites. Below are a few. takemefishing.org
