Hot-shot racers, bareboat cruisers and those who enjoy the party vibe of a major Caribbean regatta will find lots to like at the BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival. Set for March 31-April 6 out of the Nanny Cay Resort, Marina & Boatyard on Tortola, the sailing festival features a couple of warm-up days of round-the-island and fun races followed by the main three-day event. This year—and for the first time—organizers will welcome owners and crews of the phenomenally popular J-70 sport boat class. “The J-70s are a very fast-growing one-design class, and we wanted to offer them a new place to race,” explains regatta director Judy Petz. “The BVI Spring Regatta has a separate one-design course, which will work perfectly for this type of boat.” Kestrel Liner Agencies LLP of Miami offers a discounted round-trip rate on shipping the J-70s from Palm Beach, Florida, to Road Town, Tortola. Beyond the racing, Petz says, “If you want to be part of the action but stay on land, the island offers many activities from snorkeling to scuba diving and sight-seeing tours. Then you can join the party each night at the regatta village where there are live bands, great food and a huge bar set up right on the beach.”
