You might call the latest launch from Johnson Yachts a space ship. Or maybe it’s the artistry of trompe l’oeil. Naval architect Bill Dixon and Taiwanese builder Johnson Yachts have managed to fit four ensuite staterooms, equal-size saloon and skylounge, crew quarters, and a dream country kitchen into a 75-foot boat that actually looks like an elegant yacht instead of a wedding cake or an athletic shoe. Perhaps the magic is that Bill founded his career on racing sailboats where every inch must be used with utmost efficiency and that he has been designing for Johnson Yachts for 20 years. Perhaps, too, it’s because Johnson’s U.S. dealers, Butch Richards at Johnson Yachts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Sea Company in Newport, California, have an almost collegial relationship with the builder, helping guide the products for their unique markets and customers. ...
