What started as a tragedy has turned into a triumph as the Carlos Aguilar Match Race (CAMR) celebrates its sixth year. Named in honor of a keen match racer and avid supporter of youth sailing who lost his life in 2008, this international regatta has since attracted a Who’s Who of highly ranked sailors. This list includes the USA’s Sally Barkow and Genny Tulloch, France’s Claire Leroy, Finland’s Staffan Lindberg, Portugal’s Álvaro Marinho, and the U.S. Virgin Islands’ Peter Holmberg and Taylor Canfield. This year should prove even more exciting as native son, Canfield, comes back home to skipper 1 of 10 invited teams after a year off from the event. During that time, he racked up impressive wins on the Alpari World Match Racing Tour and posted a career high World #1 in ISAF’s Open Match Race rankings in August.
