The newest small digital cameras marketed as “adventure” cameras are creating a lot of interest among cruisers as well as other outdoor enthusiasts. Often referred to as “point-and- shoot” cameras, they slip easily into a pocket or purse and can be quickly deployed. With larger, bulkier equipment the photo opportunity is often gone by the time the gear can be pulled out of a camera bag or case. Until recently the only real advantage the point-and-shoot models had over the larger digital single lens reflex (DSLR) cameras was their simplicity and small size. To get that simplicity and small size, output quality was somewhat compromised. That, however, has changed and in a big way.
