Being the skipper of an America’s Cup yacht has its glory days, its challenges, its successes, and its risk. The Cup’s legend was that the skipper who lost the Cup would replace it in the New York Yacht Club (NYYC) trophy room with his own head. Any skipper who heard this would probably smile, but it was a nervous smile to be sure. The NYYC took its Cup ownership very seriously.
