Anyone who draws the short straw and spends a stormy night standing anchor watch wishes there was a better way to keep track of anchor drag. Up until just a few years ago there weren’t many options, but improved GPS accuracy allowed anchor monitoring features to be added to many GPS units. A miracle of science, the GPS and Wide Area Augmentation Systems (WAAS) mostly provide accurate positioning, but operational errors are common and can be a source of problems.
