Increased river access for trout anglers
The Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country is recognized as one of the top 100 trout streams in America—despite having no native population of freshwater trout—and the southernmost trout stream in the nation. The river below Canyon Reservoir is the only stocked trout fishery in the U.S. where trout routinely survive through the heat of summer due to cool waters in the Guadalupe. The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) has signed temporary lease agreements with four area property owners to expand free public fishing access to the river’s trout fishery. The new access points—which will allow wade fishing and some bank fishing, kayak, canoe, or other non-motorized boats access—are at Whitewater Sports, Rio Raft and Resort, Mountain Breeze Campground, and Camp Huaco Springs.
