Bimini Big Game Club reopens
Guy Harvey affiliation
makes it the ideal
fishing ‘Outpost’
The excitement was palpable in Alice Town, Bimini, as the Bimini Big Game Club reopened, after being closed for two years. “The Big Game Is On” was the slogan as the property—rebranded as Bimini Big Game Club, a Guy Harvey Outpost Resort & Marina—opened its doors again.
“This is the perfect spot for the Outpost,” said Guy, the noted marine-life artist and conservationist, of the decision to co-brand the first Outpost in Bimini. He added that Bimini offers some of the most diverse fishing in the world–bone fishing flats to the east and deep-sea Gulfstream fishing barely two miles west. “This is where the fish are,” Guy said.
A $3,500,000 renovation included all of the 51 guest rooms—comprising 35 regular rooms, four penthouse suites, and 12 cottage rooms—the new Bimini Big Game Bar and Grill and the Outfitter Shop, featuring Guy Harvey branded sportswear. The resort is refurbished with an undersea life theme based on Guy’s work. The 75-slip marina, which accommodates yachts up to 120 feet in length, also received a refit.
John and Anne Hemingway grandchildren of Ernest Hemingway—a regular visitor to the island, whose name is synonymous with Bimini—were on hand marking the 111th anniversary of the author’s birth, as well as the 75th anniversary of his arrival on Bimini.
A large part of the new BBGC and Guy Harvey Outpost Resort and Marina is its conservation focus. No surprise, given Guy’s interest in wildlife conservation. The resort has a partnership with the Bimini Biological Field Station’s world-famous shark lab, located on south Bimini. In a weekly event designated “Shark Night” researchers will visit the restaurant and casually chat with guests about their work.
An on-site Neal Watson dive shop will soon be in operation. Of course, there will be lots of fishing tournaments to attract Florida anglers.
